What is RED LIGHT Therapy?
Red Light Therapy (RLT) an every-day term for the science of photobiomodulation.
It has been proven effective for a wide range of healing and rejuventating uses including anti-aging, hair loss prevention & regrowth, skin conditions, wound care, pain relief, and much more! It is a 100% natural therapy with ZERO side effects. And YES, IT WORKS!
Light is energy, and our body is energy. Red and infrared light energy can penetrate deep into the body, and has profound effects in the hands of both western and eastern healing professionals alike.
I am going to try to explain how RLT works in the cellular level in a simple understanding. Most of the RLT occurs within the mitochondria, the “powerhouse” of the cell. When we get sick, injured, or stressed, etc., the mitochondria in our cells can produce nitric oxide (NO). Nitric Oxide competes with the oxygen in our cells which, in turns, leads to cellular death and eventually halts the production of ATP, our “energy currency in life”.
Well, it might be best to consider red and near infrared light to be our little hero when it comes to nitric oxide. The following mechanism of action is backed by some pretty solid research conducted at Harvard University. You see, red and near infrared light, breaks the nitric oxide bond and restores the production of ATP. The result is normal cellular metabolism. Once our cells are healthy again, we’ll see the following benefits that have been proven time and time again through published clinical literature:
- Increased collagen production due to stimulated fibroblasts
- Enhanced circulation through the formation of new capillaries
- Improved anti-inflammatory emissions due to increased lymph system activity
- Increased muscle recovery, peak athletic performance, and weight loss
- Enhanced testosterone production, through the stimulation of leydig cells
- Reduced inflammation and joint pain
- And believe it or not, a lot more!
Risks & Benefits of RED LIGHT THERAPY:
There are so many benefits of red light therapy that I gave them their own page and you can find it here.
In study after study all over the world, there are no reported adverse side effects from red light therapy. There are some precautions you should consider before you begin your treatment, however.
- Immune Suppressant Drugs
Does Red Light Therapy Really Work?:
The answer is YES, it does! There isn’t much debate over exactly how it works anymore. Now the attention is turning to, “what else can w use this amazing therapy for?” Research has been positive and is ongoing in the fields of wound healing, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, heart attack, traumatic brain injury and many others.
The effectiveness of red light therapy has been known for decades and has been proven by hundreds of studies all over the world. Long before FDA approval here in the United States, red light therapy has been in use by European countries, NASA, the US military, professional athletes and veterinarians.
Take for example, the very popular anti-aging applications, such as the elimination of fine lines and wrinkles. You did not age over night. So, too, you can not expect to reverse aging over night. You can expect to see gradual, consistent improvement with consistent treatment. Expect it be about three months before you are “before and after” photo ready.
When using red light therapy for pain relief, however, you can expect to feel relief. Consistent treatment will often heal the cause of pain.
How long does it take for red light therapy to work?
It is not an immediate miracle transformation that will occur overnight, but it will provide you with ongoing improvements that you will begin to see in anywhere from 24 hours to 2 months, depending on the condition, its severity, and how regularly the light is used.
- For the “healthy glow” of a photofacial, you’ll see a difference right away.
- When used for pain relief, results can arrive in under 20 minutes.
- As a skin healing therapy, some improvements should be noticed in as little as 24 hours from the first treatment.
- Acne scars and scars from other types of injuries can start being visibly improved in as a little as two weeks, and should gradually fade over time with continued use.
How often should I use Red Light Therapy?
For anti-aging, pain relief, skin texture improvements, it is recommended 3-4 treatments a week for up to 8 weeks. It is best that you continue to use of the light once or twice per week as a part of a regular maintenance practice. This will help to make sure the the benefits will continue over the long-term.
